But historically, they have mostly depended on the human to take the resulting information and actually perform the work.

An AI agent is different.

An agent is given some degree of authority to act. It can potentially open a browser, click buttons, type information, download files, upload documents, interact with applications, manipulate data and perform a sequence of tasks without requiring the human to direct every individual step.

But there is an important catch: not every agent can perform every action.

The Most Important Question: What Can the Agent Touch?

When evaluating an AI agent, don't simply ask whether it can “use a computer.” Ask which computer and which resources it can access.
